The Red pencilfish (Nannostomus mortenthaleri) is a tropical freshwater fish of the family Lebiasinidae. It swims in midwater, close to the bottom. It grows to 2.9 cm (standard length, tail fin excluded). The IUCN Red List rates it Critically Endangered. In the aquarium it is kept at 24–28 °C.
