Cookie Policy
Explains how the www.lumareef.net site, the tv.lumareef.net viewer and the LumaReef apps use cookies and similar technologies. The short answer: there is no tracking cookie; a strictly necessary session cookie is written only if you sign in on the account deletion page.

These company details identify the seller and the data controller: they are mandatory content of the distance sales contract (Article 5 of the Turkish Distance Contracts Regulation) and part of the disclosure obligation (Article 10 of the KVKK).
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file saved to your browser when you visit a site. Sites use cookies to keep a session alive, to remember preferences or to measure visitor behaviour.
Local storage (localStorage) and session storage are areas held in the browser that do similar jobs. This policy covers all of them together.
Which cookies this site has
No cookie is written while you browse the pages of www.lumareef.net, and nothing is written to local storage or session storage.
The one exception is the account deletion page: when you sign in there with your email address and password, our authentication server writes a session cookie. It is a strictly necessary cookie that confirms your identity for the operation you asked for.
Measurement, advertising and visitor tracking tools are not used on this site. Because there is no cookie other than this strictly necessary one, there is no cookie consent window on the site either.
The session cookie on the account deletion page
This cookie is written only when you submit the sign-in form on the account deletion page, and it is sent back only to www.lumareef.net.
- Name: __Secure-better-auth.session_token.
- Purpose: to recognise your session and to confirm that the account deletion request comes from the owner of the account.
- Duration: seven days at most. When you delete your account, the session it belongs to is deleted on the server and the cookie becomes useless.
- Attributes: it cannot be read by scripts on the page (HttpOnly), it is sent only over an encrypted connection (Secure), and it is not attached to requests started from other sites (SameSite=Lax).
How your language preference is remembered
The language is held not in a cookie but in the address itself: /tr, /en, /de and so on. Your language choice is therefore a shareable link, not a record stored in your browser.
If the address carries no language, the server looks at the language preference your browser sends and redirects you to the appropriate language. This information is used at that moment and is not stored.
Fonts and external resources
The fonts of the page are downloaded at build time and served from our own server. When you open the site, your browser makes no request to a third party for a font; your IP address therefore reaches no one by that route.
The site has no embedded video player, social media component, map or advertising tag. The three-dimensional water scene on the page runs in your browser and sends no data outside.
Mandatory records arising from the infrastructure
The site and the viewer are served through Contabo GmbH. The provider may keep server logs for the security of the service and the routing of requests; those logs contain the IP address and the time of the request.
These records are a technical necessity and are not used for marketing. Retention periods are stated in the “Retention periods” section of the Privacy Policy.
The browser viewer (tv.lumareef.net)
The viewer uses no cookies. When you pair a screen, it writes a single record named “lumareef.screen.v1” to the browser’s local storage so that the screen does not ask to be paired again every time it starts: the screen’s access key, the identifier of the aquarium it is connected to, the key’s expiry date, the server address and the screen’s identifier.
The record is persistent. The key becomes invalid on the server after ninety days or when you end the connection from your phone; the viewer learns this by asking the server the next time it starts, and deletes the record at that point. The expiry is not left to the device clock, because television clocks are often wrong; for that reason, on a screen that cannot reach the internet the record stays until the server can be asked. You can delete the record at any time by clearing the browser’s site data.
The situation in the mobile and television apps
The apps use no browser cookies. The records the mobile app keeps on your phone (such as the session key, the account summary, and language and view preferences) are listed in the “What is kept on your phone” section of the Privacy Policy; they are not used for tracking or advertising.
The television apps keep the screen’s access key in the device’s secure storage (Keychain on Apple TV, encrypted preferences on Android TV). Besides that, only two non-secret technical settings are stored: the last known tank length, so that the scene can be built at the right scale, and, on Android TV, the identifier of the home-screen row. When you remove an app, these records are deleted from the device.
Managing this from your browser
In your browser settings you can block cookies for all sites, delete existing cookies and clear site data.
Blocking cookies does not break any function of www.lumareef.net, account deletion included. If you clear the site data of tv.lumareef.net, you will need to pair the screen again.
Changes
If we add a measurement or personalisation tool in the future, we update this policy and, where required, ask for cookie consent. A cookie that requires consent does not run before you give it.
